In-no-vate:
1. to introduce as or as if new
2. to make changes : do something in a new way
3. archaic : to effect a change in

This competition is open to any student with a creative idea that has the potential to make change. Innovative social, technical, product and process ideas are all welcome. We want new ideas and better ideas. We want big changes and we need to place big bets on new ideas. If you think there is a better way and you have something to offer this is your opportunity to “Walk the talk.”

What You Do To Win

  • Describe your innovative idea?  Value 40%

What key characteristics of your idea change the way people do something? Innovative ideas often come about as the result of a problem or gap in the way things are currently done. What are the features and benefits of your product or service?  How do you see your idea being used in society? Why would people want to use your idea instead of the way they do things now? What is your unique selling point?

  • Describe market potential?  Value 20%

Who currently provides these or similar products or services and how do the current solutions compare to your idea? Who is your target market (who will buy/use your product)? How many customers could use your new idea?

  • How will you reach this market?  Value 20%

You have determined that your idea has value, what will it take for your idea to become a reality?

  • What are the costs to begin this concept, initiative or business?  Value 10%

Be prepared to articulate the general costs associated with the development of your idea from a concept to a product, service or to broader applicability in society.

  • Pitch your idea to a judging panel in a 6-8 minute presentation.   Value 10%
